A solar-powered extender for Info Point

Info Point’s Solar-powered Extender allows you to extend the range of an Info Point (or Info Point Solar) even where a mains supply is not possible at that location.

The kit contains:

  • 1x 60W Solar panels with 3m extension cabling
  • Lockable weatherproof enclosure containing:
    • 20ah lithium ion battery
    • Bluetooth programmable charge controller (configure and check data using your phone)
    • Outdoor-grade high-gain external antenna with 2m extension cable
    • Switching, fuse, cabling and external solar cable connectors
    • An Info Point Extender

The battery provides back-up power when the solar panel is not receiving enough sunlight. A 20ah capacity battery will approximately 6 days of back up power when set to only run for 16 hours a day. The charge controller can be programmed to only switch the Info Point on between sunrise and sunset. We use Lithium Ion batteries (instead of sealed acid batteries e.g. used in caravans/motorhomes) because they are lighter (a 20ah lithium ion battery is 3.5kg), smaller, and can perform at sub-zero temperatures.

This product is supply only.

The solar panel(s) and enclosure will need to be suitably installed. This might be on the roof of a building or other sloping surface or attached to a custom metal frame on a pole. Solar panels should ideally face in a southerly direction and avoid shading throughout the year. The enclosure can be wall or pole mounted and we advise that a ‘shelf’ or bottom bracket is used to help support the weight. Ideally, the enclosure and panels need to be located within 3 metres as this is the standard length of the cabling between the two. As standard the cabling exits from the bottom of the enclosure.

The Info Point Solar weights 9kg. It measures 400mm x 295mm x 200mm. A 60W solar panel weighs 4kg and measures 668mm x 545mm x 25mm.

The power consumption of an Info Point Extender is very low – 2W at 12V (0.15A) – making solar an ideal option for power supply.

The Solar-powered Extender comes with a 5 years warranty on the Info Point Extender. All other parts come with a  2 year manufacturers warranty.
