Wildfi were handed an interesting challenge when it came to delivering the Swanage Pier Trust’s ‘Pier Explorer’ experience.
“Can you install Info Point on our pier please?” was the question we were asked. At only 100 metres long this seemed like a straightforward proposition. However, water and metal are no friend of Wi-Fi and the Info Point’s expected range was dramatically reduced.
After some initial head scratching we realised the pier’s metal structure, and more significantly, the waves were playing havoc with the Info Point’s Wi-Fi signal. We found it was only possible to connect (and stay connected) to an Info Point within 50 metres (three times less than usual). The solution was to install two Extenders at conveniently located positions along the pier to boost the Info Point signal all the way down the pier.
Once visitors have paid for entry to the pier they receive a leaflet that explains how to connect to the Pier Explorer. They can then hear tales from some of the notable people of the town and watch videos that explain the geological processes that have shaped this area.
Info Point is a great product for visitors to gain free access to audio and visual tours of your location. The team at Info Point are really helpful and dedicated to helping you achieve a bespoke product.
