When St Peter’s in Great Haseley, Oxfordshire discovered – and experienced – the Info Point newly installed by their neighbouring church at Great Milton, they were keen to follow suit.
St Peter’s is a spacious building with a beautiful great east window. Among other items of particular note are the Norman font and pillars, medieval encaustic tiles, two medieval stone coffins, the 13th-century effigy of a knight and a reproduction of a jousting helmet. These all feature on a ten-stop self-guided tour of the church, plus a separate children’s tour with plenty of interactive elements.
Info Point meets a real need. Its engaging interactive design enables visitors to explore key features of history and architecture, and to understand the message that the church proclaims, through pictures, an audio guide, questions and puzzles. The children’s trail is popular with adults too, especially when they can rub out an image to see what lies underneath!
